Product Description

Udos Oil® DHA 3·6·9 Blend DiagramWHAT IS UDO’S OIL® DHA 3·6·9 BLEND? Our multiple award-winning Udo’s Oil® DHA 3·6·9 Blend is a mix of plant-based, unrefined, certified organic food oils. It provides people who care about health with a reliable, undamaged source of polyunsaturated omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids (or EFAs) and monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acids, which are all excellent sources of energy, fat-soluble vitamins and other key nutrients, and are important components of all membranes of the trillions of cells in the body. For extra health support, we added DHA omega-3s from algae.

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS AND WHAT DO THEY DO? EFAs are responsible for vital biological functions such as cell growth and division, cell-to-cell communication, gene expression, eicosanoid hormone production, and many more.(1)(2) The body can make almost all the fatty acids it needs from other nutrients but lacks the enzymes required to synthesize either omega-3 or omega-6 essential fatty acids and therefore must obtain them directly from the diet (hence the name ‘essential’).(3)

WHY ARE CAREFULLY MADE EFAS IMPORTANT FOR HEALTH? Some of the greatest health concerns facing the Western diet today are the prevalence of omega-3 deficiency (99% of the population), the overabundance of industrial, highly-refined vegetable oils (mostly omega-6) in our food supply, and the toxic damage from processing and food preparation to which both these sensitive polyunsaturated oils are commonly subjected.(1)(3)(4)

WHAT MAKES UDO’S OIL® DHA 3·6·9 BLEND SO SPECIAL? Udo’s pioneering work in the field of ‘good fats’ started in the 1980s. To make this oil blend ‘with health in mind’, we designed special machinery that excludes light, oxygen, and heat, the three factors that turn healthy EFA-rich oils into unhealthy, toxic ones.(4)(5)(6) This is also why you will always find Udo’s Oil® DHA 3·6·9 Blend in a brown glass bottle, in a protective box, in the cooler of the supplement or produce section of your local whole foods market or natural food store. Instead of packaging our fresh, carefully made oils in plastic — which comes with health concerns — we chose to package Udo’s Oil® DHA 3·6·9 Blend in glass. And, because we understand the critical role a balanced ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 plays in health, we blended Udo’s Oil with a ratio of 2:1. No other company makes oils with the same level of care we do.

More health problems come from damaged oils than any other part of nutrition. Fresh oils — especially the polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 oils — are perishable, just like other healthful but perishable fresh foods. They are also essential nutrients. We created Udo’s Oil® DHA 3·6·9 Blend to provide a complete ‘food oil foundation’ from which to build a healthy body, giving you everything you need from good fats and oils — including the added benefit of preformed DHA — and none of the bad ones you should avoid.

1 review for Udo’s Oil® DHA 3·6·9 Blend

    I’ve been taking Udo’s Oil for almost 10 years now. Still my favorite oil! Recently, I was advised by a salesperson at Wholefoods to buy the DHA version because I am now 4 months pregnant :). I feel I am getting all the same benefits that I was getting on the original blend. I was just curious to know what your thoughts were about the DHA version of Udo’s Oil vs. the original blend. Want to be sure the ‘bun in my oven’ is getting the right nourishment. Thank you for your help!

      Hi Mia,

      Firstly, congratulations – what an exciting time! With regard to using the Udo’s Oil DHA version versus the Udo’s Oil original formula, we typically recommend the DHA version under the following circumstances:

      1. Pregnant and lactating women;
      2. Children under the age of 5;
      3. 50+ crowd (research shows that the brain shrinks as we age so supplementing brain-friendly fats can be helpful);
      4. Anyone who is looking for more support for cognitive function or eye health;
      5. Anyone who feels that they may need a boost of DHA in their diet.

      In addition, our plant-based DHA is the all-around safest source of DHA for pregnant women because:

      1. Plant-based DHA is lower on the food chain and grown in tanks free of toxins;
      2. Not damaged by processing (many fish oils on the market have been found to be damaged due to processing ie. gone bad, inflammatory;
      3. We don’t use plastics to package our oils: polyunsaturated oils are sensitive, so putting the oil in glass guarantees there will be no leeching from the plastics. Glass is an inert material. It’s also better for the environment.

      We formulated, pressed, and packaged Udo’s Oil DHA the way we did for a reason: it’s our best offering for a healthy oil with nothing questionable about it.

      Hope this helps!
