One of the best and easiest ways to get more good fats into your daily routine is to add Udo’s Oil® to your morning or post-workout smoothie. Citrus season in the US generally starts in November and winds down around April/May. Make the most of all those super flavonoids (plant pigments), vitamin C, folate, and thiamin with this Citrus-Oatmeal Smoothie recipe, straight out of the Udo’s Choice® kitchen:
Serves 4 (makes 4 cups)
2 ripe bananas, cut into chunks
1 naval orange, peel removed, cut into chunks
1 grapefruit (pink or red), peel removed, cut into chunks
1 lemon (or lime), peel removed, cut into chunks
1 cup yogurt (or alternative milks for vegans)
½ cup rolled oats (or steel cut)
¼ cup Udo’s Oil 3·6·9 Blend
1-2 tbsps honey or maple syrup, or 1-2 dried dates (optional)
½ cup water (or until desired consistency)
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth; about 2 minutes;
- Pour into individual glasses and serve immediately.
*Tip: While the pith (the white membrane between the flesh of the fruit and the peel) of citrus fruits is bitter, we still highly recommend blending some of it into the smoothie as it packs serious nutritional punch with concentrated flavonoids, antioxidants, and other beneficial plant compounds.
