Product Description

WHAT IS UDO’S CHOICE® CHILDREN’S PROBIOTIC? Part of our multiple award-winning collection of age-specific probiotics, Udo’s Choice Children’s Probiotic is a medicinal blend of seven human-adapted (aka resident or non-transient), child-specific live probiotics. This special blend provides parents and care providers with a safe and effective high-potency source of probiotics that naturally live and thrive in the healthy digestive tract of children.

WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS AND WHAT DO THEY DO? The human body is a walking ecosystem: There are ten times more microbial cells living on the surfaces of our bodies — both inner and outer — than there are human cells.(1) Also known as ‘friendly’ bacteria, the probiotics that live in our digestive tract protect us from harmful bacteria. In addition, they help with digestion; make vitamins (B and K) and short chain fatty acids; stimulate the protective ‘mucin’ secretion in the gut lining; and break down cholesterol and toxins in our bowel. But their wide-ranging health effects extend beyond our GI tract, affecting our immune system, the liver and brain, the weight management system, and more.(2) Our very survival depends on them.

WHY ARE PROBIOTIC SUPPLEMENTS IMPORTANT FOR HEALTH? Throughout the human life cycle, the GI tract microbiome usually maintains a mutually beneficial relationship with its host. However, many factors can reduce and negatively affect the number of friendly bacteria in a child’s gut: infection and other illness; antibiotics; birth by c-section; formula-feeding; cooked and hyper-processed foods; a fiber-poor diet; chlorinated water; inadequate sleep; medications; and stress, to name some.(3)

A reduced number of beneficial bacteria leaves your child vulnerable to harmful bacteria that can overpopulate, creating an unbalanced state known as intestinal dysbiosis. Left untreated, symptoms of dysbiosis can become chronic and lead to bigger health concerns.(4) By restoring a disrupted gut balance, probiotic supplements keep various ‘bad’ bacteria in check and promote the functional state of the GI tract and its far-reaching metabolic, immunological, nutritional, and psychological effects.*(5-9)

WHAT MAKES UDO’S CHOICE CHILDREN’S PROBIOTIC SO SPECIAL? Our pioneering work with our Udo’s Choice® probiotic blends started in the 1990s when we introduced the first-ever line of age-specific probiotics. Because we care about results, we tailored this high-potency formula to the specific needs of children, since the types and amounts of probiotics found in a healthy gut change over the life cycle. And, like people, probiotics work better in teams, which is why we chose to use blends of strains.

All of our Udo’s Choice probiotics are human-adapted (or HA). Unlike the transient (aka non-resident) dairy- and plant-derived bacteria widely marketed, our HA probiotic strains successfully implant and colonize the human digestive tract for a longer period of time. Why? HA strains survive strong stomach acid and bile, reaching the intestinal tract at a better rate. Transient probiotics are far less effective.

Udo’s Choice probiotics deliver: When compared to four other well-known brands by an independent research group, the measured viable cells of Udo’s Choice ‘stood out from the rest numerically and statistically’, and ‘Udo’s Choice was the only brand for which the number of viable bacteria recovered met the recommendations for daily dosage of a probiotic regimen’.(10) No other company makes probiotics like we do.

4 years & older

Minimum 5 billion viable cells per capsule at time of manufacture; 3 billion at date of expiry.

Udo’s Choice® Children’s Probiotic blend contains the following human-adapted medicinal probiotic strains: Lactobacillus casei HA-108 (30%); Lactobacillus rhamnosus HA-111 (25%); Lactobacillus acidophilus HA-122 (20%); Lactobacillus plantarum HA-119 (10%); Lactobacillus fermentum HA-179 (5%); Bifidobacterium bifidum HA-132 (5%); Bifidobacterium breve HA-129 (5%). Non-medicinal ingredients: potato starch, silicon dioxide (to keep dry/ prevent damage to probiotics), ascorbic acid (as an antioxidant), stearic acid and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. Encapsulated in plant-based capsules.

Take 1-3 capsules daily, with or after meals. For best results: In nature, probiotics naturally cover the fresh, raw foods we eat, with their benefits starting in the mouth when we chew foods. Because heat destroys probiotics, cooking and processing foods destroys them, in addition to farming practices such as the use of chemicals. To get the most benefit throughout the entire digestive tract, mix the contents of one capsule into smoothies or juice, or into (not hot) foods. Mixed into foods, probiotics benefit your entire digestive tract – including mouth and esophagus – that swallowing capsules will miss. Additionally, the probiotic capsule can be emptied directly into the mouth and swished around to coat the inside of the mouth (swallow but do not rinse).

Always keep refrigerated. At your local health food store or supermarket, you will always find it in the cooler. Refrigeration ensures maximum potency and stability of live bacterial cells, and guarantees number of cells listed at date of expiration on the label. Freeze to increase stability and prolong potency. For each day without refrigeration (at room temperature), about 1% of the viable cells will be lost.

We used Miralax for my daughters for several years to treat their constipation. About a month or so into using this product, we quit needing the Miralax.

  2. Mary Sullivan

I’ve been giving this probiotic to my 12 year old for over a year and I feel like it makes a difference. I like the higher CFU count since most kid’s versions are pretty low. I also like that it’s a capsule because I can easily open it and add the powder to his morning juice, kefir or mix in yogurt.

  4. Beth Ashby

Use this everyday for my son with Autism who has GI issues. Have tried other brands in past, but this works great and I have confidence in the way it was manufactured. You do have to refrigerate but that is optimal for most probiotics.

  5. Shelly

We have used Udo’s in our house since our 3 children were infants. It is the most amazing brand on the market for probiotics providing children with the perfect probiotic blend.

  6. Janet Shanks

Since we started using this with my grandson, he no longer gets every virus out there. At first we used it twice a day, but mostly now only once a day unless he shows signs of getting sick. Great product, great price.

  7. Happy Mom

This has seriously helped my ADHD kids with allergies. I was constantly hearing that they’d have stomach aches. I don’t anymore. I highly recommend this product.

  8. Nicky

My seven year old swallows this without a problem. It is a very small capsule. For kids that can’t do that it can easily be taken apart and the contents sprinkled into cereal or oatmeal. The kinds of healthy foods that are good for our gut flora are a hard sell for kids. So this is cheap insurance.

  9. Giselle Lamont

    Dr. recommended, my child loves!

  10. JP

My son has has a rash that is related to Candidiasis, and I did not realize how much this was helping keep this rash at a minimal until we stopped using it. I did notice that he is definitely more regular with his BM when taking this, but am now also seeing the direct affect it may be having for his skin as well. Will have to be sure to never be out of this again.

  11. Laura

only probiotic that works for my daughter!

  12. Five Stars

Super quality and price. Thank you!

  13. Grace

    As expected, great price

  14. Mostiaki

They work great! Only 1 a day and my sons diarrhea stopped the 2nd day!

  15. Lyndsay Kilgour

These came highly recommended and they are great!

  16. DsaintG

Worked as directed. We had to open these and put them in the kids food, to large to swallow. But they worked ok, I was glad to see they came in a glass jar instead of plastic.

  17. Lisa RW

When I purchased these, I somehow missed they aren’t chewables. Oops! Luckily my 3-year-old doesn’t mind eating the probiotic powder on a scoop or hummus or nut butter. They’ve been great! Would buy again.

  18. Alexandra L Walker

Best option for kids and most cost efficient. We’ve been using it for months and I am certain it has aided in my children’s health.

  19. JS

Love the Udo’s probiotics. This is a capsule and my children, ages 10, 8, and 6 have no problem swallowing them. If you’re not into swallowing them, you could easily open the capsule and mix the powder into oatmeal or a smoothie.

The Bottom Line

A diminished number of probiotics in the gut can wreak havoc on our digestive and overall health. Taking a high-potency blend of probiotics — specifically human-adapted probiotics — is a safe and effective means for maintaining and restoring the various beneficial bacteria that naturally thrive in a healthy digestive tract. We created Udo’s Choice Children’s Probiotic to give your precious young one more of the ‘friendly’ bacteria they need, and provide additional protection from the harmful ones.*
