Product Description

WHAT IS UDO’S CHOICE® TODDLER’S PROBIOTIC? Part of our multiple award-winning collection of age-specific probiotics, Udo’s Choice Toddler’s Probiotic is a medicinal blend of six human-adapted (aka resident or non-transient), infant-specific live probiotics. This special blend provides parents and care providers with a safe and effective high-potency source of probiotics that naturally live and thrive in the healthy digestive tract of infants and toddlers.

WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS AND WHAT DO THEY DO? The human body is a walking ecosystem: There are ten times more microbial cells living on the surfaces of our bodies — both inner and outer — than there are human cells.(1) Also known as ‘friendly’ bacteria, the probiotics that live in our digestive tract protect us from harmful bacteria. In addition, they help with digestion; make vitamins (B and K) and short chain fatty acids; stimulate the protective ‘mucin’ secretion in the gut lining; and break down cholesterol and toxins in our bowel. But their wide-ranging health effects extend beyond our GI tract, affecting our immune system, the liver and brain, the weight management system, and more.(2) Our very survival depends on them.

WHY ARE PROBIOTIC SUPPLEMENTS IMPORTANT FOR HEALTH? Throughout the human life cycle, the GI tract microbiome usually maintains a mutually beneficial relationship with its host. However, many factors can reduce and negatively affect the number of friendly bacteria in an infant or toddler’s gut: infection and other illness; antibiotics; birth by c-section; formula-feeding; cooked and hyper-processed foods; a fiber-poor diet; chlorinated water; inadequate sleep; medications; and stress, to name some.(3)

A reduced number of beneficial bacteria leaves your little one vulnerable to harmful bacteria that can overpopulate, creating an unbalanced state known as intestinal dysbiosis. Left untreated, symptoms of dysbiosis can become chronic and lead to bigger health concerns.(4) By restoring a disrupted gut balance, probiotic supplements keep various ‘bad’ bacteria in check and promote the functional state of the GI tract and its far-reaching metabolic, immunological, nutritional, and psychological effects.*(5-9)

WHAT MAKES UDO’S CHOICE TODDLER’S PROBIOTIC SO SPECIAL? Our pioneering work with our Udo’s Choice® probiotic blends started in the 1990s when we introduced the first-ever line of age-specific probiotics. Because we care about results, we tailored this high-potency formula to the specific needs of infants and toddlers, since the types and amounts of probiotics found in a healthy gut change over the life cycle. And, like people, probiotics work better in teams, which is why we chose to use blends of strains.

All of our Udo’s Choice probiotics are human-adapted (or HA). Unlike the transient (aka non-resident) dairy- and plant-derived bacteria widely marketed, our HA probiotic strains successfully implant and colonize the human digestive tract for a longer period of time. Why? HA strains survive strong stomach acid and bile, reaching the intestinal tract at a better rate. Transient probiotics are far less effective.

Udo’s Choice probiotics deliver: When compared to four other well-known brands by an independent research group, the measured viable cells of Udo’s Choice ‘stood out from the rest numerically and statistically’, and ‘Udo’s Choice was the only brand for which the number of viable bacteria recovered met the recommendations for daily dosage of a probiotic regimen’.(10) No other company makes probiotics like we do.

1-5 years old

Minimum 3 billion viable cells per gram at the time of manufacture; 1.7 billion at date of expiry.

Udo’s Choice® Toddler’s Probiotic blend contains the following human-adapted medicinal probiotic strains: Lactobacillus casei HA-108 (35%); Lactobacillus rhamnosus HA-111 (25%); Lactobacillus acidophilus HA-122 (15%); Bifidobacterium infantis HA-116 (15%); Bifidobacterium bifidum HA-132 (5%); and Bifidobacterium breve HA-129 (5%). Non-medicinal ingredients: maltodextrin (from non-gmo corn), ascorbic acid (as an antioxidant), silicon dioxide (to keep dry/ prevent damage to probiotics).

Take 1-3 times daily. Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon (1 gram) dose of concentrated probiotic powder in infant formula or juice, or mix into yogurt, pureed food, and other (not hot) food. Heat destroys probiotics so never add to hot food. Alternatively or in addition, dip a wet spoon into the probiotics to coat the spoon and let baby or toddler suck or eat it off the spoon or dip clean finger into water then dip into probiotic powder to cover tip of finger, and let baby or toddler suck the probiotics directly off the finger. It can also be applied to the nipple during breastfeeding to benefit both baby and mother.

Always keep refrigerated. At your local health food store or supermarket, you will always find it in the cooler. Refrigeration ensures maximum potency and stability of live bacterial cells, and guarantees number of cells listed at date of expiration on the label. Freeze to increase stability and prolong potency. For each day without refrigeration (at room temperature), about 1% of the viable cells will be lost.

I started giving my son the Udo’s probiotics because I was concerned he wasn’t getting any good probiotics from formula. I did breastfeed him from birth but never produced enough milk to sustain him so I always finished the feeding with formula. At 3 months, I stopped breastfeeding altogether for personal reasons. Even though my son was birthed naturally (versus c-section) and therefore got some gut colonizing from this, I’ve read that continual colonization of his gut at the infancy stage will benefit his health long-term. Hence the Udo’s probiotics. It gives me peace of mind to be able to compensate for what he’s not getting from me otherwise. I add some of the powder (eyeball it) to one or two of his bottles daily. He’s just starting on foods so I’ll likely start adding them there as well. Thank you for such a helpful product for this concerned mom!

My infant daughter has had digestive issues since she was about 9 months. We’ve had to restrict rice/bananas/cheese as it would make it very difficult for her to have a bowel movement. Since using Udo’s Choice Infant’s Blend probiotic (we mixed it in with milk), she has shown a great improvement and helps keep things moving around in her wee belly. I think this is a great digestive health supplement and would recommend to anyone!

  3. Marilyn Beatty

I have always had problems being “regular” and apparently I passed that onto my infant. She would sometimes go days without having a BM and she would visibly be in pain because of it. Ever since the probiotics, she is having a BM every other day, if not daily. Awesome product. Shipped with a cold pack as it should be!

  4. Ben Fleisher, LAc

We love the Udo’s Choice Infant’s Probiotic formula!! As an Acupuncturist, I feel great about the formula, but more importantly, my kids love it! Like “fight over it” kind of love it. Almost every day we find a cloud of white probiotics on one of them or the floor because one or the other stole the powder mid-bite.

  5. BETH

Before using this brand we used Gerber Soothe drops on my 2 week old. Because of the cost we started using Udo’s at about 5 weeks and I’m so glad we did! We have noticed a huge difference in our baby since starting her on Udo’s probiotic. She is happier, less gassy, and now does one huge poo every morning instead of a tiny poo every 2 hrs. Because baby is happier, we are all happier…
Baby is breastfed so I just mix the powder with some breast milk and my husband gives it to her like you would medicine, with the syringe.

  6. Melody Thomas

This probiotic was a game changer for both of my babies! My first I started at 3.5 months after trying everything and the second was started at 5 weeks. I was shocked by how much better they were able to handle passing gas, my daughter was finally content after months of not being happy EVER being put down. They were both born via c-section (despite every effort otherwise) and exclusively breast fed past 14 months and I was thankful to be able to supplement with this great strands that were life changing in our lives! They are both incredibly healthy children (age 5 and 6) due to a great vitamin and probiotic regimen we are on but I feel so strongly that this product helped set the foundation for great gut health! Neither of my kids have been on antibiotics which is basically unheard of and I know has also been a contributing factor for sustained gut health.

  7. Catherine

Love this product, have reordered it and will continue to reorder it- dissolves pretty well. Son can’t detect it.

  8. Nancy Johnson

My child has been on Udo’s Choice Infant’s Probiotic since birth. I feel like it has helped to stay exceptionally healthy! He’s never really struggled with constipation or stomach issues.

  9. Greg Sindberg

We use Udo’s Choice Infant’s Probiotic in our daughter’s homemade formula, and she really enjoys it. She is very regular and we have no doubts using this quality Udo’s product for our infant.

  10. Cindy F

Excellent product. Helps my toddler get over colds faster.

  11. Mandag07

I started buying this for my daughter was she was about 6 months old. She is now 14 months and I am still giving this to her. She struggled with constipation and then I did some research and decided on a probiotic instead of giving her over the counter medicines and juices. I was giving her 1/4 tsp up until she turned 12 months and now I give her a 1/2 teaspoon. I put it right in her milk. I also buy this same brand but in capsules for my 7 & 9 year olds.

  12. Kinsey

We love this probiotic for our baby. We dissolve it in some milk and give it to her in a syringe to make sure she gets it all. She has never seemed to mind the taste and it has helped keep her regular. My only complaint is I wish it dissolved a little better. It can get a little clumpy and sticky, which is why we stopped putting it into a bottle.

  13. Rebecca M

Best probiotic ever. Keeps my son regular and helps with gas.

The Bottom Line

A diminished number of probiotics in the gut can wreak havoc on our digestive and overall health. Taking a high-potency blend of probiotics — specifically human-adapted probiotics — is a safe and effective means for maintaining and restoring the various beneficial bacteria that naturally thrive in a healthy digestive tract. We created Udo’s Choice Toddler’s Probiotic to give your precious little one more of the ‘friendly’ bacteria they need, and provide additional protection from the harmful ones.*
